First Announcement and Call for Papers
The Petrochemistry Division of DGMK announces its 12th topical Conference with the general theme
"C4/C5-Hydrocarbons:

Routes to higher value-added products"

The Conference is jointly organized by Prof. Dr. Stefan Ernst (University Kaiserslautern), Dr. Peter Prinz (BP Köln GmbH), Prof. Dr. Andreas Jess (University Bayreuth), Prof. Dr. Johannes A. Lercher (University Munich), Dr. Ekkehard Schwab (BASF AG) and Dr. Mario Marchionna (Eni). The Conference is organized in association with the Division of Industrial Chemistry of the Societŕ Chimica Italiana (SCI) and the Association FranÇaise des Techniciens et Professionnels du Pétrole (AFTP).  It will be held

October 13 – 15, 2004 in Munich, Germany.

English will be the Conference language throughout. The scientific program will consist of keynote lectures (upon invitation only) by renowned experts in the field, oral presentations and poster presentations. There will be no parallel sessions and ample time for discussion. The manuscripts of all keynote, oral and poster presentations will be handed out to registered participants at the Conference desk in Munich.

The Conference will address all scientific and technical issues related to the general theme: The ongoing development of C4/C5-hydrocarbons based value chains in refinery and  petrochemistry, the use as chemical building block, the challenges of future gasoline specifications (e. g. reduction of aromatics, need for alternative high octane hydrocarbons in a post-MTBE era) and the expected increasing substitution of olefins by paraffins are driving forces for this innovation process. Contributions on new or improved methods for the use of C4/C5 hydrocarbons will be particularly welcome. Pertinent examples are improvements in isomerization, alkylation, dimerization, conversion of special olefins as iso-amylene by etherification via TAME, partial oxidation (e. g. n-butane to maleic anhydride), 1-octene production from C4 cuts, hydroformylation of n-butenes, dehydrogenation of C4/C5-paraffins to olefins or selective cracking to supply the growing propylene market.
Moreover, contributions on other new processes based on C4/C5-hydrocarbons, developments in generating C4/C5 hydrocarbons and improvements in separation and purification (selective hydrogenation, membrane technologies, extraction) will be also appreciated.
