Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located approximately 90 km southwest of Munich, the state capital of Bavaria, surrounded by the mountains of the Bavarian Alps. Garmisch-Partenkirchen can easily be reached by train from Munich airport. The beautiful scenery around Garmisch-Partenkirchen is dominated by the Zugspitze, the highest mountain of Germany (2,962 m / 9,724 ft). The city hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics and the 1978 alpine World Ski Championships. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is both one of the major climatic health spas in the Bavarian Alps and Germany’s premier winter sports metropolis and therefore offers a full range of accommodations. There is a great variety of outdoor activities and a large number of tourist attractions can be reached easily including Munich, Salzburg and the famous Neuschwanstein Castle.
