Systems biology is a strategy to elucidate complex biological processes at the molecular level by employing advanced high throughput and information technologies. It allows us to gain insights into the interactions of numerous molecular components of biological systems. It is probably of great value to biotechnology: information on gene regulation, metabolic networks and fluxes can assist in the development and optimisation of biotechnological processes, e.g. by rational metabolic engineering based on sound models.The conference will present the interesting perspectives of current research in this field – dubbed systems biotechnology - and its applications.
