The focus of the 12th Status Seminar Chip Technologies 2010 is on the applications of microarray technology in functional genomics and ultrafast sequencing. Functional studies and the resequencing of the genome in many copies are currently the most prolific areas of biological research. Microarray technology is key to the determination of the biological function of genes, proteins, and the frequency and strength of intracellular molecular interactions. Microarray-based sequencing techniques will soon allow for the analysis of the entire human genome in a single reaction. In combination, hybridisation and sequencing are expected to provide valuable information for medical application, drug discovery, toxicology and many other fields of research. Issues like whole genome sequencing, transcriptome analysis and metagenomics have become synonyms of this breathtaking revolution of current biomedical research, which meanwhile reaches well beyond nucleic acids.

The Status Seminar Chip Technologies, Sequencing and Functional Genomics 2010 will demonstrate the huge potential of today's microarray technology and provide a glimpse of what the future may hold.

Plenary Lectures

Plenary lectures will be one highlight of the conference:

How is your genome today? – Microarray-based expression profiling for analysing mouse models
Johannes Beckers, Helmholtz Zentrum München

The International Cancer Genome Consortium and its German component
P. Lichter, German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg
