The aim of the conference is to highlight innovative concepts for the substitution of volatile organic solvents in solution phase synthesis in academia and industry. Emphasis will be given to the development and application of alternative reaction media and phase-separable reagents (aqueous phase, ionic liquids, supercritical media, fluorinated phases, thermoregulated systems, soluble polymers etc.) in all areas of chemical synthesis. General topics include:
? Green chemistry and solution phase synthesis
? Transition metal mediated synthesis
? Biotransformations
? High throughput solution phase synthesis
? Physico-chemical properties of solvent systems as related to chemical synthesis
To overcome classical borders, the programme will be structured according to reaction types and chemical processes, rather than the type of approach. Comparisons of alternative strategies will be a key theme. In particular, the potential of individual concepts to open new opportunities beyond solvent replacement will be addressed.
This conference, organised by DECHEMA e.V., Society of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, is a follow-up meeting of the very successful first Bruchsal conference ?Green Solvents for Catalysis ? Environmentally Benign Reaction Media? in October 2002.
