The organising committee extends a cordial invitation to participate in the 7th International Symposium on Cataysis Applied to Fine Chemicals (7th CAFC). This meeting will be held in the charming city of Bingen, Germany, next to the historical place of the of Mainz and the world famous town of R?desheim in the scenic area of Rhine River with the old castles on both side of its shore. The current conference to be held from October 23 to 27, 2005 is organised under the auspice of the German Catalysis Society as part of DECHEMA.

The general scope of CAFC-7 will be the integration of heterogeneous, homogeneous and bio catalysis in organic synthesis with emphasis on relevance to fine chemicals production. The symposium aims the to simulate interactions between academia and industry and researchers in these three sub-disciplines of catalysis. CAFC-7 is expected to greatly contribute to the promotion of new concepts for the development of atom efficient catalytic methodolgies for fine chemicals synthesis reflecting also the green chemistry aspect. The session topics will reflect this general theme, placing emphasis on acpects that are common to all three areas of catalysis. At CAFC-7 emphasis will be put on the production segments of fine chemicals in contrast to the former meetings in which type of reactions involved have been focused. Thus, the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, fragrances and flavours, aroms, vitamins, chiral compounds and fine chemicals based of renewables will be considered applying heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzymatic catalysis.

The scientific programme comprises of 7 plenary lecutres which will be delivered by C. Bolm, RWTH Aachen; M. Eggersdorfer, DSM, Basel; P. Gallezot, University of Lyon; T. Riermeier, Degussa, Hanau; M. Scalone,
F. Hoffman-La Roche, Basel; F. Spindler, Solvias, Basel; A. van der Weerdt, Quest International, Ashford.
In addition 31 oral presentations will be presented and 2 poster sessions will be held. Publications of the plenary lectures and a few selected papers form the Symposium will be published in Catalysis Today, Elsevier.
