15th International Congress on Catalysis 2012

Invitation
Contamination of groundwater and soils are of main concern for the protection of resources as required by the WFD, the Groundwater Daughter Directive and the recent Thematic Strategy for Soil Protection with its proposal for a directive on soil protection strategy. The international experience from several decades of soil and groundwater remediation showed clearly that technological concepts alone are limited in reaching good quality status of groundwater and soil. An intelligent combination of natural occurring processes and active measures like In-Situ Remediation is needed in the assessment of contaminations and the treatment of contamination sources and plumes to reach and control a good quality status.
Natural Attenuation is a subject of discussion among stake-holders,the authorities, service providers and scientists in many countries. Due to an increased system understanding In-Situ Remediation is gaining more and more interest for complex pollution sources. Both approaches, not only as stand-alone solutions but much more as part of the life cycle of site remediation, require individual, intelligent solutions in technology application to have the most ecological and economical effi cient strategy for each phase.
Much progress has been made in the last few years, especially in the understanding of complex interactions of attenuation processes in soil and groundwater. This offers new chances for the use of Natural Attenuation and the application of In-Situ Remediation.
In a special workshop possibilities to accelerating the implementation of innovative/effi cient remediation and site characterisation/monitoring technologies by technology performance verifi cation (ETV) will be discussed.
The European Conference on Natural Attenuation and In-Situ Remediation brings together scientists, the authorities, consultants and engineers. It allows companies to present their latest products and services. For the third time after 2002 and 2005 European experts in this fi eld meet to discuss, to exchange experience, to network, to create project consortia and to stayup-to-date.
